Writings from the Range | August 2024
Every year in July, I feel a sense of urgency that reflects back the nature of the land-based businesses we run - we must make hay while the sun shines!
This year is no different. On March 23rd, our son Crosby was born and I was supported by the Range team to take some proper time off. As a female founder, this is no small feat and it reflects the wonderful people this organization has attracted.
If you are reading this email, I want to thank YOU for your support of Range Revolution - every purchase, every social share, every review - your participation in what we're building helps strengthen and solidify our mission, which is rooted equally in supporting people and planet.
The past few months have allowed me and the team to work on, and participate in, initiatives that do just that. Some highlights...
May saw the launch of our Keep on Growing campaign--a labor of love that blossomed while I was in the midst of bringing my own labor of love - my son - into the world. The radically talented Nicki Bluhm, captured by the brilliantly creative Lauren Massie and Sarah Davis to support the work of Women in Ranching. While the campaign is based on a message of growth and discovery for all, it truly showcases the power of bravely determined women.
June had us on the road - conducting research and building relationships in LA, followed by a magical weekend in the mountains of Montana for the Old Salt Festival. The opportunity to take our team, products and mission offline and out into the world to converse and connect is such a vital part of ensuring the ethos of Range Revolution continues to evolve and inspire, empowering us all to do work that matters.
July put our noses back on the grindstone, testing, executing, planning and collaborating. It also was an eventful time on our family farm - threats from fires, coming up short on grass and a growing meat business and herd.
August delivered more fires, which thankfully have now been contained by 500 volunteer and professional firefighters from 12 counties around Oregon. As I look back at what summer has served us and ahead at what's to come, I continue to be inspired by the people and opportunities that have become part of the experience of building Range Revolution.
As I continue to move through life as mother, rancher, and entrepreneur - the words of anthropologist and activist David Graeber are on my mind - “The ultimate hidden truth of the world is that it is something that we make, and could just as easily make differently."
Thank you for your support of this work and being part of the Range Revolution.
Eternally Grateful,
Cate, Founder
